Forest School Training for Teachers and other Outdoor Education Professionals 

Plas Derw are the sole providers of Forest School Training in North Wales and our programme is delivered by our subsidiary trading company PDT Training and Education Ltd.

Courses are delivered by Forest School Trainers; Training Co-Ordinator Carolyn Burkey and Outdoor Learning Co-Ordinator Pippa Gallagher, who both have a wealth of knowledge and experience in delivering Forest School and other education and environmental courses.  Additionally, they continue to deliver Forest School projects for the trust alongside their Forest School training commitments.

We are proud of the personal high standard of Forest School training you will receive as you train with us which includes;

  • Practical assessment days during initial training, where you will be signed off to use tools and fire with your groups for your first six session programme
  • Unique on site session observations, offering support and advice during your Forest School delivery

Certificate in Leading Forest School L3

The Level 3 award qualifies you as a Forest School Practitioner.

Throughout the course you will explore the newly developed suite of 5 Units which encompass areas such as; establishing a site, planning and safely running a stimulating program with your client group, observing the learning and development and effectively evaluating the sessions. Forest School training will give you the confidence to teach the use of tools and fires to your client group.
Award in Assisting Forest School L2
This is the qualification for Forest School Assistants and is ideally suited to those of you who would like to be involved in Forest School without the full responsibility or commitment of a leader.  Level 2 assistants can only work with fully qualified Level 3 Practitioners on site. You will only attend the first three days of the course dates listed below.

13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 September

19-24 February

13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 27, 28 June 2018

Cost: £850 for Level 3,   £450 for  Level 2  (Early Bird Offer of £750 for Level 3, £400 for Level 2, if booked two months before course start date)

Location: Glyndwr University Northop Campus, Northop CH7 6AA

Additional info:  £100 for express certification within 6 months of course start date.

 

 

Coastal School Certificate

Plas Derw Trust are providing Coastal School Training using the beautiful beach and plush new training rooms over at Porth Eirias, Old Colwyn in October.

The Coastal School unit qualifies you to lead Coastal School sessions if you already have a Forest School qualification or if you are currently undertaking the training. You can also complete the Coastal School unit then undertake the additional 4 units to create the Full Award at a later date.

Date: 12th and 13th October

Cost: £350 for the Unit,  £850 for the full award, discounts apply when combining it with Forest School qualifications

Location: Talacre (near Prestatyn).
